A little about Ridgeland
Ridgeland sits between Jackson and Madison along Interstate 55 in the southern end of Madison County, with the Natchez Trace Parkway on its west edge and the Ross Barnett Reservoir on its east. It incorporated in 1899 as a railroad town and stayed small until the 1970s, when Jackson's growth pushed north across County Line Road. The population is around 24,000. The Reservoir, built in the early 1960s on the Pearl River, gave Ridgeland its lakefront neighborhoods; Old Trace Park, the Natchez Trace Visitor Center and the Mississippi Craft Center sit along that shoreline. On the west side, Highland Colony Parkway and the Renaissance at Colony Park turned farmland into the metro's main office and retail corridor in the 2000s, and the Ridgeland Multi-Use Trail now runs the length of the Parkway.
That history gives Ridgeland a wider mix of properties than most people expect: seventies and eighties neighborhoods north of County Line Road with mature trees and older irrigation, lakefront and near-lake homes along Lake Harbour Drive, Northbay and Dinsmor, townhomes and newer construction around Highland Colony, and a heavy concentration of commercial grounds along the Parkway and Lakeland-style corridors.
What Ridgeland yards deal with
Near the Reservoir the ground is sandier and wetter, the pollen and leaf load off the water and the hardwoods is heavy, and drainage toward the lake has to be handled carefully. Away from the water it is the same Yazoo clay as the rest of the county, which means compaction, standing water in graded subdivisions, and beds that were built in subsoil. The older neighborhoods have the mature-tree problem: forty-year-old oaks shading out the Bermuda that was planted when the trees were saplings, so the lawn thins every year no matter how it is fed. Often the honest fix is thinning the canopy and switching the shaded areas to a shade-tolerant turf or beds.
Ridgeland also has the highest density of commercial landscaping in the county. Office parks, medical buildings and retail along Highland Colony are judged on how the grounds look on a Monday morning, and they need a crew that shows up on schedule with an insurance certificate on file.
Weekly lawn care in Ridgeland
Same day every week, all year: mowing at the right height for the grass type, edging, trimming, blowing and a property walk. Fertilization and pre-emergent on the warm-season calendar, spot treatment for dollarweed and Virginia buttonweed, which are common near the Reservoir, aeration in late spring and early fall for the clay, and scheduled leaf removal from October through the holidays for the wooded lots.
Landscape design and beds in Ridgeland
Refreshes for the established homes in Olde Towne and off Pear Orchard and Ridgewood Roads, where the original shrubs have outgrown the house; lakefront plantings that hold up to wind and wet feet; foundation plantings and pine straw for the townhomes near Highland Colony; and commercial designs built for low maintenance and clean edges. Landscape lighting for the lake-facing sides of Reservoir homes is a common request.
Patios, walls and drainage in Ridgeland
The Reservoir-side lots slope toward the water and the hillside neighborhoods off Old Canton Road slope every direction, so retaining walls with proper drainage are a large share of our Ridgeland hardscape work. Paver patios on a compacted base, walkways that replace cracked builder concrete, and French drains, catch basins and downspout routing for the side yards that stay wet for days.
Commercial landscaping in Ridgeland
Grounds maintenance for offices and medical buildings along Highland Colony Parkway, churches, HOA entrances in Northbay and Dinsmor, and retail near Northpark Mall and the Renaissance. Scheduled visits, seasonal color, pine straw rotation, irrigation checks, monthly invoicing.

A year of landscaping in Ridgeland
January and February are for the work you cannot see in summer: pre-emergent goes down before soil temperatures climb through the mid-fifties, ornamental grasses and liriope get cut back, crape myrtles get a light structural prune and not a topping, and dormant-season tree and shrub planting gets the roots established before the heat. March and April are green-up. Lawns in Northbay and the Lake Harbour Drive neighborhoods come out of dormancy, the first mow is set high and lowered over three weeks, beds get their spring pine straw or mulch, and irrigation is turned on and audited head by head. May through August is maintenance season: weekly mowing, feeding on the warm-season schedule, spot weed control, deck height raised in the heat, and a close eye on fungus when the humidity settles in. Late summer is when the hardwoods along the Reservoir and Old Trace Park start showing dead wood, which is the time to trim it before a storm does. September and October are the most important months of the year for a Ridgeland lawn: fall fertilization before dormancy, aeration and overseeding while the soil is still warm, and bed refresh before the leaves come down. November and December are leaf removal, the pre-freeze irrigation check, and the cleanups that get the property looking finished for the holidays. Commercial properties along Highland Colony Parkway run the same calendar with seasonal color changes at the entrances in spring and fall. If you only do two things a year, do the fall feeding and the fall aeration; they decide what the yard looks like in April.
Working around the Reservoir
Reservoir-side properties need a few things handled differently. Fertilizer and weed control near the water are applied with buffer strips and slow-release products so runoff does not feed the lake. Debris from the water side, the pollen sheets in spring and the leaf load in fall, is cleared on a schedule rather than when it becomes a problem. Plantings on the lake-facing side are chosen for wind and wet feet, with cypress, wax myrtle, yaupon and ornamental grasses doing most of the work, and lighting is aimed away from the water.
Questions from Ridgeland homeowners and property managers
Do you handle lakefront properties? Yes. Wind, wet ground and heavy debris change the plant choices and the schedule, and we plan for it.
My lawn is mostly shade now. Can it be saved? Sometimes with canopy thinning and a shade-tolerant turf; often the right answer is converting the deep shade to beds. We will tell you which.
Do you do commercial accounts? Yes, along Highland Colony and across Ridgeland, with a certificate of insurance and monthly invoicing.
How soon can you start? Written estimates go out the same week; weekly service usually starts the week after.
Can one crew do the lawn, the beds and the drainage? That is the point. One crew, one number.
